On Wednesday, September 30th, the South Dakota Day of Remembrance for U.S. Indian Boarding Schools, our staff and students arrived in their orange shirts to show respect, support, and acknowledgement for the survivors, the ones who didn't make it home, and their families who were affected by Indian Boarding Schools. O.S.O. students have spent multiple days learning about the Orange Shirt movement and its founder, Phyllis Webstad. Students were asked to reflect on the healing and reconciliation of this era.

Staff enjoyed an end of the week visit from a food truck, Roscoe’s Kitchen—and it was a HUGE hit! 😋 Our Bison staff agreed that the food was absolutely delicious. Thanks for bringing the deliciousness to the Bison Herd! 🦬

🏆 Congratulations, Coach Amy Heinert! 🏆

Coach Amy Heinert has been named the Ben Reifel Coach of the Year for 2025–26!

Coach Heinert coaches Cross Country and Track & Field for the Bison, but her impact on Ben Reifel Athletics goes far beyond the sports she coaches. You can often find her in the stands cheering on our athletes and working at many of our other Bison sporting events.

Coach Heinert consistently models the Bison Way — Integrity, Empathy, Excellence, and Unity — in her coaching, teaching, and support of our entire Bison community. She shows our athletes what it means to be a Bison not only through what she says, but through the way she leads and serves every day.

Coach Heinert, thank you for the countless hours, hard work, and dedication you give to Ben Reifel Athletics. Most importantly, thank you for the way you model the Bison Way in everything you do.
