Family Engagement

As part of the Community Learning Center’s mission to support the holistic development of every child and to empower and strengthen families, we are committed to enhancing both the quality and frequency of Family Engagement opportunities across the Sioux Falls School District. By fostering meaningful connections between schools, families, and the community, we aim to create inclusive and supportive environments that promote academic success, social-emotional well-being, and long-term positive outcomes for all students.

Connection Coordinators

Each school with a CLC program employs a full time Connection Coordinator. Their role is to bridge multiple gaps: between school day and out-of-school care, between school and home, between families and the Sioux Falls community. Connection Coordinators build relationships with students and parents to understand the needs of families and be able to connect them to resources within the school or throughout the community.

Health and Wellness Fairs

The CLC runs 3 large Health and Wellness Fairs a year, hosted in local schools. These fairs bring together dozens of community vendors representing medical health, mental health, physical activity, education support, nutrition, safety, and all aspects of health and wellness. There’s something for everyone to enjoy and learn about the great programs, services, and opportunities throughout the Sioux Falls region. By bringing everyone together for an evening, we give families an easily accessible way to learn about and connect with service providers and give human service workers a chance to network and learn from each other too!

Community Conversations

As we believe that parents are the experts on their own children; and knowing that all parents have hopes and dreams for their kids, we greatly value the opinions, ideas and experiences of SFSD parents! One way we gather feedback, ideas and suggestions from parents is through Community Conversations within local schools. The CLC helps facilitate these conversations to listen to parents and share insight with school leaders and teachers.

Statewide Community and Family Services

We use resources and share ideas in partnership with Statewide Community and Family Services. We encourage parents to take the 6 week online Common Sense Parenting class, offered multiple times a year. Visit the South Dakota Statewide Family Engagement Center website for more information.
