Meet BENNY! 🦬💛🖤❤️
If you attended Bison Roundup today, you may have seen our newest student! Benny is so excited to be part of the Bison family. He shared with Mr. Hieronimus and Mrs. VanDrongelen that he doesn’t just want to be a Bison—he wants to be a SUPER BISON! 💪🦬
Benny also shared one very important fact: he does NOT like being pet! So please admire our fluffy friend from a distance and DON’T PET THE FLUFFY COW! 😂🦬

Last week the 8th grade Očéti Šakówiŋ Owáuŋpse class went to the Mitchell Indigenous Archaeological Site and Museum. The village is estimated to have supported a population of approximately 600 people. Archaeological evidence suggests that these villagers lived in earthen lodges and practiced a mixed subsistence economy that included agriculture and hunting. Students were able to enter a model lodge and learn how foods were preserved and waste disposed of. Before leaving the site, students tried their hands at throwing an atlatl used for hunting.

Our 7th grade Očéti Šakówiŋ Owáuŋspe class traveled to the Pipestone National Monument last week. Students learned about the significance of the red rock to many Native tribes along with the quarry process that enrolled tribal members go through to gain pieces of the rock. It was a fun day to be in the fresh air and explore the park.

Team 7-1 celebrated their study of the book The Outsiders with a dress up day. Students dressed up as characters from the book, and they spent time comparing it to the movie.
They also had a best dressed competition.

Last week students from the 6th grade Očéti Šakówiŋ Owáuŋspe earned the opportunity to visit Good Earth State Park (Blood Run Gathering Place). Student were led on a guided trail to learn about native plants and animals, watched an informative film about the nations that gathered in the area 500+ years ago, and participated in a scavenger hunt throughout the museum. All SFSD middle school O.S.O. classes joined this trip, giving us a chance to gather together and visit with friends and family in the district.
