Yesterday, three of our fantastic Education Assistants painted the library windows in support of Everybody Reads. This initiative partners local Libraries with the SFSD to promote reading. The theme this year is "Rain or Shine, Everybody Reads". Thank you to Melissa, Michelle and Danielle for lending our building your talents! We can't wait to see how many books get read by our Bison students this year.

The BRMS Band Department partnered with the SD Symphony Dakota Wind Quintet this week in a presentation about preparing and performing for our upcoming Solo & Ensemble event. Students were blown away by the ensemble's musical skill and dedication to their instruments. What a great way to feature local musicians and all that is possible with their instrument and future musical goals! 🙂

8th grade Accelerated Social Studies students have spent the past five months participating in a program called NHD, or National History Day, a project-based contest that all 50 states participate in each year. This annual event allows students to participate in researching a topic that relates to a theme that changes each year. In honor of NHD's 50th anniversary, this year's theme was "Turning Points in History".
Our students were able to attend two research sessions at SDSU in the fall and spent several weeks in class learning how to find the resources and research their selected topic with the end goal being the creation of a project highlighting what they learned to judges from around the community. Students had the option to create their own project or work with a partner. Projects included an exhibit, performance, website, or documentary.
For three days during the week of January 31st, judges from around the community came to evaluate and visit with the students about their presentations, ask questions, and offer feedback about their projects. It allowed students to defend their research and conclusions while explaining what they learned about how their topic was a turning point in history.
15 projects were selected to move onto the regional contest which will be held in Sioux Falls at the Courthouse Museum on March 7th. Congratulation to these 8th grade students:
