What an incredible day for our eighth graders. Thanks to the Promising Futures Fund, students visited local colleges today. Students engaged in hands-off activities throughout the day, toured the campuses, ate delicious lunches and listened to students speak about college life. Thank you to Dakota State University, South Dakota State University, Augustana University and University of South Dakota for hosting our students and giving them experiences they won’t forget. We are so grateful to the Promising Futures Fund for giving our students this opportunity. ❤️

On May 12, we will hold our second Bison community-outreach day. Team 7-2 is partnering with Delivering Hope to assemble Chemo Care bags. Each month, students will collect items to place in the bags. These bags will be fully assembled and delivered during the day of service.
If you are interested in helping team 7-2 reach our goal of 100 bags for kids through adults, please drop donations off at Ben Reifel, or send with your student. Currently we are looking for: coloring books, word searches, cross word puzzles and warm fuzzy socks all sizes and genders.
We look forward to our second community day in May! ❤️

Band students were treated to some fantastic opportunities last week. On Wednesday, 6-8th grade band students had the opportunity to hear music from the South Dakota Symphonies Dakota Wind Quintet. Students learned about developing good practice habits and were able to hear music from all over the world. It spurred wonderful questions and conversation among the musicians and students!
On Thursday 7th and 8th grade band students were able to take a field trip to Washington High School to learn about and listen to the amazing WHS marching band!
We are thankful our students get to have these experiences.

6-1 science spent time today modeling how earthquake waves travel through the 🌎! The room was shaking with excitement!

Ben Reifel Orchestra students will be performing at the All District Orchestra Festival. It will take place on Tuesday, November 8th at the Sioux Falls Arena, beginning at 7pm.
We are so proud of all the hard work our students have been putting in to prepare for this. Come out and support our Bison students!

And with a blink of an eye, we are already a quarter way through the 2022-2023 school year! The second quarter is here, and it’s a busy one! While this time of year tends to get chaotic, it’s important to remember how crucial student attendance is. Chronic absenteeism is a serious problem in South Dakota - a problem SFSD is committed to improving. Missing just two days a month can hurt a student’s grades and increase their chance of dropping out. Make sure your student is on the path to a bright future – and that starts in the classroom!

The November edition of Herd It Here is now available.

Kiera Goebel, grade 6, was selected to participate in American Choral Directors Association National Honor Choir, which will take place in Cincinnati February 22-25, 2023. More than 4000 students from the United States submitted auditions. Congratulations Kiera! We are so proud of you!

We can't wait to see our Bison family hit the dance floor on Thursday November 3rd, from 4-6pm. Please see the flyer for details on how students can attend.
